In late 2023, Golden State Foods (GSF) Management Partners collectively donated more than $100,000 in personal contributions toward the GSF Foundation’s Focus on Food program. Seeking to alleviate hunger among food-insecure families, Focus on Food supports U.S. food banks through donations and volunteerism.
“The issue of food insecurity affects millions of children and families, and we are committed to making a difference in the communities where our associates live and work,” said Brian Dick, GSF President and Chief Executive Officer. “As a values-driven company and leading supplier to the foodservice industry, Golden State Foods and our GSF Foundation will continue to prioritize our support of U.S. food banks in their essential hunger alleviation efforts.”
Funding 360,000 meals, the Management Partners’ year-end giving donations will be distributed evenly among five Feeding America affiliates serving the areas with the highest amount of food-insecure children in communities where GSF associates live and work. These food banks include: Atlanta Community Food Bank, Greater Chicago Food Depository, Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, North Texas Food Bank (Dallas, Texas), and St. Mary's Food Bank (Phoenix, Arizona).
“Thank you to our generous Management Partners who have come together to give back and make a positive impact on the lives of those most in need of our support today,” said John Page, GSF Foundation Board Chairman and GSF Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer. “The food banks we’re supporting serve diverse metro areas and fight hunger in some of the highest need counties in our country.”
Since 2020, the GSF Foundation’s “Focus on Food” initiative has generated funding for more than 3 million meals to help children and families struggling with food insecurity, especially during the summer months when kids lack free school meals. Local GSF Foundation committees have the opportunity to make an annual grant to eligible 501(c)(3) food banks with matching national GSF Foundation donations up to $5,000 per local food bank grant. Additionally, many Foundation teams organize food drives, volunteer in food pantries, and help harvest fresh food to support their local food banks during Focus on Food month in May.
